Why is mankind so pathetic, yet so powerfull?

First off, we're pretty big, second off we are pretty bold. Third, we don't have claws? or thick skin? We TAKE the claws of other animals and make them our own. We take the hides of other animals and wear then for warmth and protection. We use poisons from plants and animals to kill, and use herbs to heal. We have the ability to think about the future and plan for it. We have Fire. Our brains make us the most adaptable creature alive. But most importantly in my opinion, we have the ability to communicate specific information, pass down knowledge and build upon it.
