I just dont understand this website domain crap.?

See, I want to make my own website. All I see so far is me leaching off other websites for free, such as for example. mycrap.therecrap.com I dont want to do that. I just want it to be mycrap.com. Even if I pay so much a month or year for me to get "mycrap.com" from what ever website I pay, Im still technically leaching. I want it to be my own stuff, I just dont understand. If I do pay, then who or what does all the other sites pay to get their domains. I google and google, never finding anything good. Who did myspace or facebook pay to get theirs going. Does someone own the internet? I mean. RAWR!! I just want my own website.
