I need driftwood help?!?!??!?

I'm going to go collecting driftwood for a future aquarium, I really don't want to buy any. None of them suit my needs. I have Oak trees and Eucalyptus near me in large numbers. I can get them weathered from the ground or from the streams. But how do I tell them apart? Which one lasts longer? I heard you can use beach driftwood if you boil and soak it for a couple months. I have a couple months to spare so im willing to put in the work. Does the wood type matter with beach wood? Because I honestly have no idea what kind of wood it is. Will beach driftwood still leach tannins?
