I"m considering gluing pennies around the outside rim of my clay pots. Will the copper leach into my soil?

I have a problem with slugs and i read about this as a possible solution. Copper shocks them according to the articles i read. But i am worried about copper toxicity too. Want my plants healthy. Ty in advance for your help. :~)
